About Ann Perz

Ann Perz

I started painting in 1991 after noticing a painted piece my friend had done at a beginning painting class she was taking. I immediately thought, like so many before me, that I could never do this, but my friend assured me otherwise. After discussing it with my husband, he encouraged me to give the class a try. I loved it so much, I’ve been painting ever since.

I have always drifted toward doing my own designs. When I had painted other designer’s work, I was never truly pleased with the outcome because I thought my work needed to turn out just like theirs. I’ve since realized what I tell my students today… their paintings are an interpretation of my designs.

I enjoy taking a raw piece of wood or other object and turning it into something special. I can imagine what the finished product looks like before I even start. This thought process is what led me to design my own pieces. The first professional piece I ever designed was intended for one of the painting groups I belong to, but when I showed it to a friend, she suggested I submit it to a magazine. I took her advice, and to my surprise, they accepted it. My piece, a dimensional Christmas Tree, appeared in the 2009 Quick and Easy Painting issue.

I teach at The Tole Shop in Glendale, AZ, where I currently live. I also work at American Medical Solutions in Phoenix, AZ. My family consists of my husband and two grown daughters.

My hopes and dreams for the future are to become a national teacher and a popular designer amongst so many other very popular and talented designers.

Keep those brushes moving and dirty,
