WOOD PREPARATION
Follow General Instructions for Sealing Wood. Solidly base insert panel with PAYNES GREY. Sand lightly and wipe clean. Using a sea sponge, sponge on TRULY TEAL, letting base color show through. While still wet, lightly sponge on AVALON BLUE, in the center area a little larger than the Snowman. This will create a halo around the Snowman. Dry and sand lightly, spatter with GLACIER BLUE and make starflakes with WHITE. Apply basic pattern lines.
Snowman Head, Body, and Arms... Base with Flesh tan. Shade float and dry brush with TRAIL TAN/RAW SIENNA. Highlight float and dry brush with ANTIQUE WHITE/WHITE. Dry brush on rosy cheeks with ROUGE. Base carrot nose with GEORGIA CLAY. Highlight float with PUMPKIN. Shade float with BURNT SIENNA. Using DARK BURNT UMBER, make eyes, line mouth and base coal buttons on tummy. Using WHITE, highlight float bottom edge of coal buttons, place highlight dots on eyes, cheeks, carrot nose and coal buttons.
Tree... Base trunk with DARK BROWN. Shade float BURNT UMBER. Highlight float with MOCHA BROWN. Base foliage area with WOODLAND NIGHT GREEN. Using TURQUOISE, overstroke with the Wave Angle brush, size 1&Mac218;4”, pulling from bottom upward on each section. Dry and then repeat with WHITE. Spatter and make starflakes with WHITE. Base star with ANTIQUE GOLD. Highlight float with SUNBRIGHT YELLOW/PINEAPPLE YELLOW. Shade float with MOCHA BROWN. Make starflake highlight with WHITE. Base pole with BURNT UMBER. Shade float with DARK BURNT UMBER. Highlight dry brush with MOCHA BROWN. (Note: Pole is painted after snowman is complete.)
Scarf... Base with TRULY TEAL. Shade float with BLUE VELVET. Using LAGUNA BLUE, highlight float, base stripes and make fringe. Shade float with TRULY TEAL/BLUE VELVET lightly. Highlight float with TURQUOISE/TROPIC BAY BLUE. Highlight overstroke lightly on the fringe and the stripes with GLACIER BLUE.
Hat Crown and Tail... Base alternating stripes with ANTIQUE GOLD. Shade float with MOCHA BROWN. Highlight float with SUNBRIGHT YELLOW/PINEAPPLE YELLOW. Base remaining stripes and pompom with MOROCCAN RED. Shade float with MENDOCINO RED/BLACK CHERRY. Highlight float with TANGERINE/PUMPKIN. Place an ANTIQUE WHITE highlight comma stroke on the pompom. Base brim with EGGPLANT. Shade float with VINTAGE WINE. Highlight float with DEEP LILAC/LILAC. Make the trim line with LILAC. Make trim line with LILAC. Highlight it with WHITE and shade it with DEEP LILAC.
Mittens... Base with MOROCCAN RED. Shade float with MENDOCINO RED/BLACK CHERRY. Highlight float with TANGERINE/PUMPKIN. Base stripes with MENDOCINO RED and shade float them with BLACK CHERRY. Reverse highlight float with MOROCCAN RED.
Bird... Base with AUTUMN BROWN. Shade float with BURNT SIENNA. Highlight float with TRAIL TAN. Dry brush on cheeks lightly with MOROCCAN RED. Using FLESH TAN plus a tad of ANTIQUE GOLD, make comma strokes for wings and beak, also highlight overstroke the tail. Make eye with DARK BURNT UMBER and place a tiny WHITE highlight dot on it.
